Traction Guest Alternative: When Enterprise VMS Is Overkill

Traction Guest isn’t sold under that name anymore. The Vancouver-built visitor management system was bought by growth equity firm PSG, per PSG’s Traction Guest acquisition announcement from December 2021, then renamed Sign In Enterprise and folded into a larger platform. If you’re shopping for a Traction Guest alternative, you’re probably holding an old quote, an old bookmark, or a renewal notice with a brand you don’t recognize.

The more useful question is whether you need that class of product at all. Traction Guest was built for enterprise security teams: aerospace, pharma, government, global manufacturers. Most offices with one lobby and a few dozen visitors a week are buying a compliance platform to do a sign-in book’s job.

Traction Guest is Sign In Enterprise now (and then some)

The ownership trail is short. PSG and ShieldCo’s announcement of the Traction Guest acquisition is dated December 16, 2021, and describes Traction Guest as “a provider of cloud-based visitor management and workforce security software” headquartered in Vancouver. The same release quotes ShieldCo’s CEO sizing visitor management and workforce security as a 12 billion addressable market worldwide.

After the deal the product became Sign In Enterprise. PSG’s portfolio page for Sign In Solutions now lists “Sign In Enterprise (formerly Traction Guest)” as one of several acquisitions rolled into that company, which launched in 2021 with PSG funding. The vendor’s own site says Sign In Enterprise “is now Sign In Solutions,” and its company history describes Traction Guest’s capabilities as fully integrated into an enterprise compliance offering.

So if the rebrand confused you, that’s why. Three names, one product line.

What the enterprise tier actually buys

Sign In Solutions doesn’t publish a price. Its pricing page says packages are tailored to each enterprise organization’s “goals, complexity, and scale,” with hardware and core features included. Expect a scoping call, a pilot, and a quote.

What sits inside that quote, per the vendor’s public pages:

• ID and passport scanning at sign-in, including North American driver’s licenses.
• Watchlists and threat scoring to flag visitors before they’re let through.
• Access control integrations that sync visitor records and provision credentials at different access levels.
• Dynamic approvals routed by site and risk level.
• Location-specific workflows, custom roles and permissions, and configurable data retention.
• Incident tracking and compliance management across sites.
• A Salesforce connection for logging client visits, plus SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 listed on the product page.

That’s a serious security stack. It’s also a stack with a scoping process, because every one of those features needs somebody to configure and own it.

Who should stay on the enterprise platform

Keep the enterprise product if any of these are true at your site:

• You must verify identity at the door. Scanning a government ID and checking it against a watchlist is a different job from recording a name. • Visitors need door credentials. If a visitor’s sign-in has to grant or deny access at a turnstile or reader, you need a platform that talks to your access control system.
• Security policy spans many sites. A global security team enforcing one approval chain across dozens of facilities is the customer Traction Guest was designed for.

When a Traction Guest alternative makes sense for a 10-to-500-person site

Most businesses aren’t the enterprise buyer. The SBA Office of Advocacy’s 2026 small business FAQ reports that 99.9 percent of U.S. businesses are small, and that small businesses employ 45.9 percent of private sector workers. The SBA Office of Advocacy defines that group as businesses with fewer than 500 employees.

If that’s you, the signs you’re overbuying are usually obvious once you list them:

1. Nobody screens visitors today, and no auditor has asked you to.
2. Reception is one desk, maybe a second iPad at the loading dock.
3. The real complaints are basic. Hosts don’t know their visitor arrived. The paper logbook shows every previous visitor’s name. Contractors never signed the safety waiver.
4. You don’t have a security admin to own watchlists, approval chains, and retention policies.

Here’s the tell. Sign In Solutions’ own company history splits its lineup, with separate products for “growing businesses” and the Traction Guest capabilities positioned for “enterprise compliance and identity verification.” The vendor draws the same line this post does.
